How to Use This Guide
Maine Home Care Guide is a free resource for finding and researching licensed home care agencies throughout Maine. Whether you’re looking for care, checking an agency’s credentials, or helping someone else, here’s how to make use of the information available.
Find Home Care for Yourself or a Loved One
Start by entering your town, county or ZIP code in the search box, or browse agencies by county. The results show licensed home care agencies that may serve your area.
Results are grouped by publicly available service area information. Some agencies may name your town on their website, others say they serve your county, and others may have an office in the county. Open an agency’s listing to review its details, visit its website or find its contact information.
Consider contacting several agencies to ask about the services they provide, whether they have caregivers available in your area, and what payment options they accept.
Verify an Agency You’re Considering
If you’ve already found a home care agency through a recommendation, an online search or another source, you can use this guide to look into its licensing information.
Type the agency’s name in the “Agency name” box under the search (on a phone, tap “Filter by agency name or type”), or find it in the list of all agencies, A to Z, and open its listing. You’ll find the information from Maine’s licensing records: the agency’s legal business name, its license number and its recorded license status.
You can then follow the link to the State of Maine’s official license lookup to confirm the agency’s current status and see its inspection results. Agencies sometimes operate under a different name from their registered business name. The search here finds an agency by any of its names, and checking both names can help you identify the correct provider.
Help Someone Else Find Care
If you’re helping a family member, friend, patient or client find home care, you can use the directory to identify agencies serving their community.
Search for their town or county and review the available providers. You can share a link to the local results so they can explore their options themselves, or use the listings to help them prepare a list of agencies to contact.
The directory is free to use and doesn’t require an account or personal information. Families can explore providers and contact agencies directly, without going through a referral service.

Agencies change where they serve and how to reach them. If a listing is out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
