About this directory
Every licensed home care agency in Maine, in one place, so you can find who serves your town and reach out to them directly. Here is who is listed, how results are ordered, and where each fact comes from.
Which Home Care Agencies Are Listed?
Every agency the State of Maine shows with an active Personal Care Agency license (the State’s name for a home care agency license): 318 agencies as of October 7, 2026. Small agencies and agencies without a website are listed too. Agencies whose licenses are expired or denied are not.
Listing is not an endorsement. A license means the State allows the agency to provide home care. It does not say how good the agency is, and this directory does not rate agencies. See the disclaimer.
Who Built and Maintains This Directory?
Built and maintained by Silver Linings Agency, LLC, a licensed home care agency in Bangor, Maine. Its listing is built from the same sources by the same rules as every other agency’s. Because it maintains this site, Silver Linings is shown first when you search for a place it serves.
Before starting Silver Linings, we needed care for a loved one and struggled to find an agency we could trust that also had caregivers available. A directory like this would have helped, so we built one to help other families find care across Maine.
Not to be confused with Silver Lining Senior Care LLC (license PCA1005), a separate licensed agency with a similar name.
How Are Search Results Ordered?
Search for a town and the results come in up to three groups. Each agency appears once, in the first group it fits:
- Agencies that name your town on their own website as a place they serve.
- Agencies that cover your county. Their website names the county or other towns in it, or says they serve all of Maine. A statewide claim is worth confirming for your town; each town and county page says how many rely on one.
- Agencies with an office in your county whose website does not say where they serve, or that have no website. Ask them whether they serve you.
A county search shows the second and third groups. If no agency names your town, its page says so and lists the county’s agencies.
Inside each group, agencies are in alphabetical order, with one exception: Silver Linings Agency, LLC, which built and maintains this directory, is shown first in any group it is in. It only appears in a search when it fits that group by the same rules as everyone else. Nothing else affects the order.
You can also search by ZIP code. A ZIP code that covers one town goes to that town; one that covers parts of several asks you to choose.
What Does Each Listing Show, and Where Does It Come From?
| What you see | Where it comes from | Listings with it |
|---|---|---|
| Name, license number and status | The State of Maine’s public list of licensed agencies | All 318 |
| “Doing business as” name | The names the State lists for the license | 28 |
| Franchise or independent | The agency’s names and website address, checked against a list of franchise brands | 19 franchises |
| Website | The agency’s own site, found by search and accepted only with strong proof | 122 |
| Phone and email | The agency’s own website | 113 phone, 68 email |
| Where it serves | The towns and counties the agency’s own website names | 56 |
| Office county | State license records and a federal registry, shown only when the website does not say where the agency serves | 252 |
We only show what the State or the agency itself says, so some listings are short. 122 of 318 agencies currently have a website here. If your agency’s website or details are missing, tell us and we will add them.
What Information Is Not Included?
- Street addresses are not published on this site. Many agencies work from a home or an office they do not advertise.
- The State’s registered phone numbers, which are often not the ones an agency uses with the public.
- Ratings, reviews, prices and availability. We do not have them; ask the agency.
- Inspection results. They are public on the State’s license lookup, and each listing links there.
- Anything about individual people. This directory is about agencies.
How Is the Directory Information Gathered?
Licenses
The list of agencies comes from the State of Maine’s online license lookup, and each license was checked against its State record. An agency with more than one name appears once, and search finds it by any of them.
You can download the same spreadsheet yourself here: leave the search boxes blank, search, then choose “Download a spreadsheet.” It also includes expired and denied licenses, which this directory leaves out.
Franchise or Independent
An agency is marked as a franchise when its name or website includes a national brand (Comfort Keepers, Home Instead, Visiting Angels, Amada Senior Care, Senior Helpers, Bright Star Care, Firstlight Home Care, Cornerstone Caregiving, Arcadia Home Care, Home Helpers, HomeWell Care Services, Home Care Assistance, Right at Home). Every other agency is marked independent.
Websites, Phone Numbers and Emails
A website is listed only when it clearly belongs to that agency, for example because it shows the agency’s license number or the phone and address the State has on file. Directories and review sites are never used. A phone number or email appears only for an agency matched to a website, and only when that website shows it.
Where an Agency Serves
Service areas are the towns and counties an agency’s own website says it serves. Towns are matched to counties using the U.S. Census Bureau’s list of Maine municipalities, so an agency that names only towns is also found by county. Regional names such as “Midcoast” or “Down East” are shown as “Also mentions,” in the agency’s words. We do not turn them into counties, because they have no official boundaries.
When a website says where an agency serves, we trust the website. When it does not, or there is no website, we show the county of the agency’s office instead, from its State license record or the federal NPI Registry.
How Is the Directory Kept Up to Date?
Before each update, we check that the directory matches the State’s list of active licenses exactly and that every phone number, email and service area came from the agency’s own website. Earlier versions are kept, never overwritten, so any change can be traced. The current data is from October 7, 2026.
Where Could This Information Be Wrong?
Agencies open, close and change where they serve, and the State’s list and agency websites can lag behind. Our reading of a website can also miss or misplace a town. Before you choose, confirm with the agency that it serves your area.
